Ethereum’s Glamsterdam test runs near 200 million gas per block after upgrade

Summary

Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade went live on the Sepolia testnet, raising the block gas limit from about 60 million to nearly 200 million. The change aims to increase capacity and reduce competition for transaction space, though altered gas costs mean the increase will not translate directly into three times as many transactions. Tests showed blocks using 26%–46% of the new allowance, with all scheduled blocks proposed and 99.97% of eligible testnet stake voting toward finality. Glamsterdam also changes how transaction work is assigned and enables parallel checks using lists of accessed data. Developers are assessing the added demands on node computers and have asked application teams to retest gas assumptions. The Hoodi testnet is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 27; no mainnet activation date has been set.
