Zcash’s 25-second blocks go live on public testnet ahead of schedule
Summary
Zcash activated NU7 on its public testnet at block 4,465,026, cutting the target interval between transaction batches from 75 seconds to 25. The change could reduce confirmation waits for merchants and exchanges, though actual block times vary. Compatible versions of both major node programs support the trial. NU7 also directs 40% of fees to miners and removes the remaining 60% into a reserve for future mining rewards; per-block issuance falls to preserve the scheduled supply rate. It disables the older Sprout payment system, so users with Sprout funds must move them before any mainnet activation. Developers will review test results on Oct. 20, with a Nov. 5 rollout target and no activation block yet set.
