Former Polish Police Officer Charged as Zondacrypto Probe Searches Fuel Depot
Polish prosecutors charged former police officer Artur K. in connection with the collapsed Zondacrypto exchange. He is accused of belonging to an organized criminal group and of helping with large-scale property damage, misappropriation of user funds, computer fraud, and money laundering. His home search reportedly found documents related to the exchange. Investigators are also searching a fuel depot where exchange founder Sylwester Suszek was last seen before disappearing in March 2022. The case is being treated as unlawful deprivation of liberty. A previous suspect was accused of removing CCTV hard drive evidence from a filling station. Zondacrypto began as BitBay in Katowice in 2014, later moved to Estonia, and said it had 1.3 million clients. It froze withdrawals and later lost its Estonian license. At least five other people have been charged since August.
