French bank resumes transfers after $133 million attack but leaves crypto loss unconfirmed
Summary
Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said nearly all operations had resumed after attackers accessed the bank through a service provider and initiated fraudulent transfers to other banks. The bank did not confirm that funds were converted to cryptocurrency, identify related wallets, or verify reports that €118 million was stolen. It said some funds had been blocked, recovery efforts continued, customer accounts were not used, and the incident did not threaten its financial strength. Bitquery traced $108.8 million in USDC withdrawals from wallets attributed to Kraken, Crypto.com and OKX to 15 addresses, but said blockchain data cannot establish a link to Arkéa. It estimated $42.6 million remained on Ethereum in wallets associated with the suspected theft.
