French crypto entrepreneurs to receive extra security amid recent kidnappings: Report
Crypto entrepreneurs and their families in France will receive enhanced security measures due to a rise in crypto-related kidnappings. Measures include priority access to police emergency lines, home security assessments, and safety briefings from law enforcement. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau emphasized the need for specific tools to combat these kidnappings. Law enforcement will also receive training on anti-crypto asset laundering. Recent incidents include two kidnappings and a failed attempt this year, with the latest occurring on May 13 involving Pierre Noizat's family. In January, Ledger co-founder David Balland was abducted and later rescued by police. Over 150 crypto-related robbery or kidnapping incidents have been reported since 2014, with 23 occurring in 2025 alone. Criminals often identify victims through social media and public events, prompting warnings against flaunting wealth and engaging in peer-to-peer trades with untrusted individuals.
