Galaxy puts Coldcard hack losses at 1,789 BTC, with 87% unmoved
Researchers tracking the Coldcard hardware wallet exploit say most of the stolen Bitcoin has not moved. Galaxy Research attributed 1,789.28 BTC stolen from 8,865 addresses, worth about $114.7 million at the time. According to Alex Thorn, attackers have left 1,561 BTC, or 87.3%, untouched in attacker-controlled collection or holding addresses, including all funds stolen in the first three attack waves. Some later thefts were moved using CoinJoin, peel chains, and other obfuscation methods. The tally is based partly on 221 victim reports covering 790.72 BTC in losses, with a median reported loss of 1.04 BTC. Galaxy has shared identified attacker addresses with exchanges, compliance firms, and law enforcement in case the funds pass through centralized services.
