German Savings Banks Begin Crypto Trading Rollout Inside Sparkassen App

Summary

Germany’s Sparkassen group is launching cryptocurrency trading through its banking app from October 19, with regional banks opting in gradually. DekaBank is providing the service, with Börse Stuttgart involved in custody. The initial assets are Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Polygon. Around 30 to 40 institutions are expected to join each month, with many interested banks potentially connected in the first half of 2027. Sparkassen warns that crypto is highly speculative and customers could lose their entire investment, while continuing to favor traditional savings products for long-term wealth building.
