Grayscale says Zcash can challenge Bitcoin’s network effects as privacy demand grows
Grayscale says Zcash could become a serious rival to Bitcoin if demand for financial privacy rises with AI-driven surveillance concerns. It argues Zcash has “second mover advantages” that could help it challenge Bitcoin’s strong network effects, unlike earlier alternatives such as Litecoin. The main case is that Zcash’s shielded transactions may become more valuable as AI systems improve at analyzing financial activity at scale. ZEC has already surged about 19-fold over the past year, yet its market value is still under 1% of Bitcoin’s, leaving room for upside if it gains share. Grayscale still sees Bitcoin’s liquidity and network dominance as major obstacles and warns Zcash remains a high-risk, volatile asset. Interest in the ecosystem is also growing institutionally, including a Nasdaq-listed firm expanding its Zcash mining exposure.
