Hana Bank taps Euroclear blockchain for $100M bond issuance: Report
Summary
Hana Bank reportedly issued a five-year, $100 million digital bond through Euroclear’s blockchain-based Digital Financial Market Infrastructure. Yonhap said this was the first digital bond issuance in South Korea to directly use Euroclear’s blockchain system. The bond’s issuance, registration, and settlement were handled on a distributed ledger, reducing the process from three to five business days to same-day completion. The bond also connects to Euroclear’s existing global settlement network, so investors can trade it through their current accounts and systems. Euroclear previously launched its digital securities issuance service in 2023 and used it for a World Bank-linked digital bond.
