Kalshi joins Coinbase with filing for US stock perpetual futures
Kalshi filed with the SEC and CFTC to launch perpetual futures on individual US stocks, a crypto-style derivative with no expiration date and periodic funding payments to track the underlying shares. The contracts would be treated as security futures and cleared through Kalshi Klear, but still need CFTC approval. The move follows a similar Coinbase proposal filed the same day, as both firms try to extend perpetual futures from crypto into equities. Kalshi already offers crypto perpetuals in the US, including Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and XRP. Kraken’s parent Payward also filed to list single-stock perpetuals through Bitnomial Exchange, initially targeting major names like Tesla, Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. The filings come after the CLARITY Act stalled in the Senate, prompting SEC Chair Paul Atkins to say the agency would act within its current authority.
