KuCoin, BitMart, and MEXC blocked in South Korea as regulators target web access

Summary

South Korea is blocking the websites of 27 unregistered crypto exchanges, including KuCoin, BitMart and MEXC, expanding restrictions previously imposed on their mobile apps. The Financial Intelligence Unit can now pursue website blocks without a court ruling or proof of customer losses. Exchanges must register and meet security and anti-money-laundering requirements to serve South Korean users. The FIU has referred 44 unregistered operators to investigators and says it will seek blocks against replacement websites. It warned users they may struggle to recover funds and will coordinate with industry group DAXA to help customers withdraw assets. South Korea currently has 28 registered virtual asset service providers.
