ENS seeks DAO approval to activate upgraded Ethereum naming system

Summary

ENS founder Nick Johnson has proposed activating ENSv2 on Ethereum mainnet, pending approval by an onchain DAO vote. The upgrade would move new .eth registrations to a redesigned registry with more flexible domain management and permissions, while freezing new registrations on the original registrar. Existing names would keep working, and holders could migrate when ready. Registrations would be paused for several hours during the transition. If approved, ENS Labs plans to transfer its remaining administrative control over the upgraded contracts to the DAO. The proposal is still in draft; an executable vote requires at least 1 million ENS votes, majority approval over seven days, and a two-day timelock. No voting date has been announced.
