Ledger’s early implant warnings deserved more action, Karpelès says
Security researcher Joe Grand and others say they alerted Ledger to suspected hardware-wallet implants months before the company’s latest reported crisis. Grand reported a tampered Nano X bought from an unauthorized Lazada seller; Ledger acknowledged investigating but has not publicly warned customers. Ledger confirmed an unauthorized implant in a device linked to crypto losses involving authorized Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. The reports highlight risks from marketplace sellers that are not verified resellers. Trezor has also received reports of tampered devices bought from unauthorized sellers and says it uses such reports to strengthen checks, while prioritizing warnings when cases involve authorized channels or new techniques. OneKey temporarily removed reseller listings while reviewing verification procedures.
