Macbook Crypto Users Targeted By Advanced Malware Attack, Cybersecurity Firm Warns
Cybercriminals are targeting Macbook users in the crypto space with sophisticated malware. The attackers repack pre-cracked applications as Package (PKG) files, embedding a Trojan proxy and a post-installation script. The malware deceives users and gains administrator privileges, then communicates with a command-and-control server to execute arbitrary commands and harvest sensitive information. The malware also targets popular crypto wallet applications, attempting to replace them with infected versions to steal wallet unlock passwords and recovery phrases. Malicious actors continue to distribute cracked applications to gain access to users’ computers, exploiting user trust during software installation. Kaspersky emphasized the attackers' ingenuity in employing these techniques.
