MetaMask Adds New Wallet Protections Against Crypto Scams
MetaMask is adding stronger scam protections to its mobile app and browser extension. New warnings will flag lookalike addresses, first-time recipients, investment scams, and romance scams, with clearer transaction screens. A new “Added Protection” feature will automatically revert transactions that don’t match their previews, starting on the browser extension before reaching mobile. MetaMask says many users ignore generic scam alerts, so it is shifting toward more contextual warnings and priority support when users seem uncertain. The company is also using AI-based threat detection through security partner Blockaid to scan websites, social posts, onchain code, and transaction flows for phishing and malicious behavior. The rollout comes amid rising enforcement against crypto-related fraud, including investment and romance scams.
