MetaMask adds Stellar integration, but cross-chain bridges require manual setup

Summary

MetaMask added Stellar to its mobile app and browser extension, letting users access Stellar addresses derived from existing multichain recovery phrases. To receive USDC into a new account, users must first fund it with at least 1 XLM, then activate the token’s trustline. Stellar accounts also need XLM reserves—typically 1 XLM for the account and 0.5 XLM per ordinary trustline—plus spendable XLM for fees. Some swaps can create trustlines automatically, but cross-chain swaps into non-XLM tokens require manual activation beforehand. MetaMask warns that bridged funds may be lost if the trustline is not ready, while an ordinary token send to an unprepared recipient fails.
