Metaplanet scoops 1,004 Bitcoin in 2nd-biggest buy ever
Metaplanet, a Japanese investment firm, purchased 1,004 Bitcoin for approximately 15.2 billion yen ($104.6 million) on May 19, increasing its total holdings to 7,800 Bitcoin valued at around $807 million. This purchase is the firm's second-largest, following a previous acquisition of 1,241 BTC for $129 million on May 12. Metaplanet now holds the largest Bitcoin reserves of any public company in Asia and ranks tenth globally. The firm reported a first-quarter BTC yield of 95.6% and 47.8% in the second quarter. If Metaplanet acquires another 301 BTC, it will surpass Galaxy Digital Holdings. In May alone, Metaplanet has bought 2,800 BTC, with additional purchases in previous months totaling 794 BTC in April and 1,655 BTC in March. Michael Saylor has indicated a potential new purchase for his firm, which leads corporate Bitcoin holdings with 568,840 BTC. Corporations are currently the largest net buyers of Bitcoin this year, outpacing other investor categories.
