Mirae Asset lays out crypto, stablecoin, tokenization plans for Digital X
Mirae Asset plans to build a 150 trillion won ($109 billion) digital asset business around Digital X, the crypto exchange formerly known as Korbit. The platform is set to focus on crypto, stablecoins, real-world assets, and security token offerings, including tokenizing physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity. The move follows Mirae Asset Consulting’s July purchase of a 97.15% stake in Korbit for 141.4 billion won, after which the exchange was rebranded as Digital X. This was the first case of a South Korean financial group affiliate taking control of a domestic crypto exchange. Korbit, founded in 2013 as South Korea’s first crypto exchange, held just 0.5% of the country’s trading market in 2025. Mirae Asset chairman Park Hyeon-joo said the goal is to make Digital X a core part of “Mirae Asset 3.0.” Digital X also began waiving trading fees on won-denominated assets until Aug. 24, 2027.
