MoneyGram launches Visa stablecoin card as remittance rivals expand
Summary
MoneyGram is expanding its stablecoin-based payments with a Visa-branded stablecoin debit card. The MoneyGram Card will launch first as a virtual card in Colombia, usable through Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, with a physical card planned for later expansion into additional markets. It is using Rain for card infrastructure, the same provider used by Western Union for its Stablecard. MoneyGram also launched the MGUSD stablecoin on Stellar in June and recently added a Solana wallet integration to broaden crypto transfer options. Stablecoins are being positioned as a lower-cost tool for remittances, and debit cards are noted as a particularly low-cost way to receive them.
