Moonbeam just halted all user transactions, leaving late GLMR holders at mercy of an email helpdesk to recover funds

Summary

Moonbeam’s standard GLMR migration window closed at 23:59 UTC on July 31 as the Polkadot network entered wind-down ahead of relaunch on Base. The direct bridge handled only self-custodied free balances: it locked GLMR on Moonbeam and released the same amount on Base at a 1:1 rate to the same address. Just before cutoff, the migration contract held about 308.2 million GLMR, or 24.83% of total issuance of about 1.241 billion. The rest of supply remained in exchange custody, staking, treasury, frozen, or other balance categories, so the contract ratio did not indicate all stranded funds. Users were told to withdraw from DeFi, staking, governance locks, and similar protocols before bridging. Frozen staking and crowdloan balances could be honored on Base only if account-signature and snapshot requirements were met. Late cases were directed to email support; no universal post-cutoff claim portal was published. Exchanges used their own conversion processes. Network maintenance began Aug. 1, and user transactions stopped while blocks continued during wind-down.
