MoonPay Launches Open-Source Wallet Standard for AI Agents

Summary

MoonPay has launched the Open Wallet Standard (OWS), an open-source framework designed for AI agents to manage funds and execute transactions across multiple blockchains. Developed with input from major industry players like PayPal, Ethereum Foundation, Solana Foundation, Ripple, OKX, Tron, TON Foundation, and Base, OWS addresses infrastructure gaps that have hindered AI and crypto integration. The standard aims to solve issues of fragmentation in wallet and key management for AI systems, enabling more streamlined financial operations. OWS supports major protocols such as x402 (developed by Coinbase) and the Machine Payments Protocol for session-based micropayments, and builds on previous work enabling hardware wallet signing for agent transactions. It ensures wallet private keys remain secure and are never exposed to AI agents or parent applications during transactions. The launch aligns with MoonPay’s shift toward AI-centric infrastructure, reflecting broader industry moves to provide secure, comprehensive payment solutions for autonomous AI systems.
