New York, Maryland and Utah to hold primaries with crypto PAC money hanging over voters

Summary

Crypto-backed PACs and aligned groups have spent more than $8 million to influence Tuesday’s congressional primaries in Maryland, New York, and Utah, with potential implications for the 2027 Congress. Fairshake affiliate Protect Progress spent heavily in Maryland’s 5th district and New York’s 15th, backing Adrian Boafo and Ritchie Torres, while also funding ads against Boafo’s rivals. In Maryland, candidates opposing outside spending denounced the role of crypto money and other special interests. Another Fairshake affiliate, Defend American Jobs, spent more than $400,000 to support Blake Moore in Utah’s 2nd district. Separately, the Fellowship PAC, backed by Cantor Fitzgerald and Anchorage, spent $300,000 supporting Torres. The spending follows Fairshake’s major Alabama runoff effort, where it spent over $12 million and helped elect Republican Barry Moore. Attention may next shift to upcoming primaries in Colorado and Arizona, where PACs have spent little so far this cycle.
