Solana just boosted block capacity by a massive 66%, but the one bottleneck infuriating traders hasn’t budged
Solana increased its per-block compute limit from 60 million to 100 million compute units on July 29, a 66.7% rise. This raises total block capacity for transactions touching different accounts, but it does not change the separate 12 million-CU cap for any single account within a block or the 100MB accounts-data size-delta limit. As a result, unrelated transactions have more room, while congested activity around the same hot account still competes for the same local limit. The higher block ceiling also does not automatically lower priority fees or prove better throughput. Official materials provide no before-and-after measurements for inclusion, fees, propagation, or replay. The change increases theoretical capacity, but it does not eliminate account-level bottlenecks or guarantee observed performance gains.
