Stablecoin transfers quadruple to $891B as US banks expand adoption: Report
Summary
Stablecoin transfer volume reached $891 billion in the third quarter of 2026, averaging more than $400 million per hour and growing over fourfold since early 2023. Researchers said 73% of screened transfers occurred outside US banking hours. Seven of the 10 largest US banks have tested stablecoins or tokenized deposits, and 30% of surveyed mid-market firms with cross-border operations use or pilot stablecoins. The report’s estimate that broad adoption could boost GDP and release bank liquidity is hypothetical, and it notes possible reductions in bank lending. A separate survey found interest among US adults in bank crypto services, while stablecoin market capitalization remained near $301 billion despite rising transaction volumes.
