Standard Chartered brings Ripple’s RLUSD into banking custody after $765 million quarterly surge
Summary
Standard Chartered has begun offering custody of Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin to eligible institutional clients through its Dubai branch, regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. The service is part of a proposed arrangement with Ripple and LMAX that would let clients use RLUSD as trading collateral while keeping tokens with the bank, potentially reducing transfer and counterparty risks. RLUSD’s circulating supply is about $2.4 billion across the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. The collateral integration is not yet operational and remains subject to documentation, testing, regulatory requirements and approvals. The firms have not disclosed client participation or custody amounts.
