This Week in Crypto Games: Planetside Dev's 'Reaper Actual', What's Next for 'MapleStory Universe'
John Smedley has launched Distinct Possibility Studios and introduced a blockchain-integrated first-person shooter called Reaper Actual. The game features the largest FPS map ever created, set on the island of Marova, where players upgrade and defend bases amidst conflicts between five AI factions. A $30.5 million funding round supports the pre-alpha release, requiring players to purchase limited-edition bases as NFTs or via Web2 platforms. The full release is expected early next year, transitioning to free-to-play six months later. MapleStory Universe evolves the 20-year-old MMORPG franchise with in-game items as NFTs on the Avalanche-based Henesys network. Nexpace plans over a dozen mobile and web experiences by Q1 2026 to complement the core game, allowing players to enhance items during short breaks. A web app for item enhancement will launch in late July/August, with a character rental system by Q1 2026. Valhalla's play-to-earn metaverse game is live on opBNB mainnet, rewarding players for skill and strategy. Frontiers MMORPG has released its alpha version, with new content and bug fixes planned weekly.
