Trump Family Crypto Firm Tied to Chinese AI Models US Government Called a Security Risk
World Liberty Financial, backed by Donald Trump, is partnering with Hong Kong AI platform WorldClaw to promote use of its USD1 stablecoin as payment for access to AI models. WorldClaw offers dozens of models, including many from Chinese firms such as Alibaba, Baidu, and Z.ai, alongside models from OpenAI and Anthropic. The tie-up is notable because U.S. authorities have flagged some of those Chinese firms for national security or military concerns: Z.ai was placed on the Commerce Department’s Entity List, and Alibaba and Baidu were designated by the Pentagon as Chinese military-linked companies. World Liberty says WorldClaw is independent and that offering both Chinese and U.S. models is standard practice. The financial terms are unclear, though Ryan Fang, a World Liberty executive, also advises WorldClaw, and Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump have promoted it. The partnership comes amid broader accusations that several Chinese AI companies on the platform used model-distillation tactics against U.S. AI firms.
