Trump signs orders for quantum computer, cryptography upgrades
Trump signed two executive orders to accelerate US quantum computing and prepare defenses against quantum-enabled cyberattacks. One order directs agencies to update the National Quantum Strategy within 180 days, expand commercialization and industry partnerships, and assess how larger, more powerful quantum computers will affect the shift to post-quantum cryptography. It also creates QC-ADDS, a national effort to build a large-scale quantum computer for scientific discovery. The second order launches an accelerated nationwide migration to post-quantum cryptography, led by the Office of Management and Budget and the National Cyber Director, to protect sensitive data from future quantum attacks. The move comes as China increases investment in quantum computing and quantum communications.
