UK government reports 240 crypto millionaires in 2025
Summary
UK tax data show 240 people reported more than £1 million each in crypto capital gains in the 2024–2025 tax year, totaling about $975 million. In all, 17,600 people declared digital-asset gains worth about $1.9 billion, with $18.7 billion in crypto disposals reported. UK officials said crypto gains are taxable like other gains and warned investors to understand their obligations. The reporting comes as the UK moves to share crypto tax data under the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework, which is expected to capture more taxable onchain activity globally. The disclosure followed reports that HM Revenue and Customs sent more than 81,000 letters to suspected crypto tax underpayers.
