US CBDC ban to go into effect without Trump signoff on housing bill
A bipartisan US housing bill, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, is set to become law without President Trump’s signature after he let the 10-day constitutional deadline lapse. The bill includes a ban on a Federal Reserve CBDC, or similar digital asset, through Dec. 31, 2030. Trump said he would not sign it and criticized Republicans who backed it, urging Congress to focus instead on the SAVE America Act. Senator Elizabeth Warren said the bill will still become law. The episode has raised questions about whether Trump could similarly avoid signing the Senate’s pending Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, a major crypto market structure bill that has passed the House and key Senate committees. Trump’s crypto ties and reported 2025 crypto income have already complicated negotiations over the legislation.
