Strategy-led group pledges $15M to quantum-proof Bitcoin network
Strategy launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium, a coalition of financial institutions and Bitcoin companies focused on protecting Bitcoin against future quantum-computing threats. The group plans to contribute $15 million over three years to fund developers working on quantum-resistant security for the network. Founding members include Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy. Mike Schmidt, executive director of Brink, will coordinate the consortium’s work. The move comes amid growing debate over how urgent Bitcoin’s quantum-security challenge is. Some industry figures argue the threat is decades away, while others say Bitcoin may have only a few years to prepare for post-quantum upgrades. Galaxy separately pledged up to $5 million for related grants and set up an advisory council on migration strategies. BlackRock said it is supporting Bitcoin’s long-term security through additional funding.
