This Bitcoin Bridge Shut Itself Down Because AI Was Finding Bugs Too Fast
Boltz has indefinitely suspended its Bitcoin swap service after a sustained rise in AI-assisted attacks and exploit attempts made it unsafe to keep operating. The non-custodial service lets users move bitcoin between the Lightning Network and Bitcoin’s base layer without taking custody of their funds, so Boltz says no user funds were ever at risk. It did not provide an ETA for restoration and said it cannot responsibly re-enable swaps while multiple groups are actively targeting its infrastructure and fixes are still being deployed. Boltz said cooperative refunds can still be processed through its API, unilateral refunds continue to work, and customer support remains available. It framed the incident as part of a broader shift in which Bitcoin infrastructure operators face faster, more automated attacks that can outpace small security teams.
