With violent crypto home invasions surging, a data breach exposing over 10,000 Trezor owners puts physical safety on the line
Trezor disclosed that a breach at fulfillment provider ShipMonk exposed customer data for about 13,689 hardware wallet buyers. For 11,742 people, names, email addresses, phone numbers, and shipping addresses were exposed; another 1,947 had names, cities, and email addresses compromised. Trezor said its own systems and devices were not breached, and wallets remain secure. The main risk is not direct wallet access, but the linking of identifiable people and home addresses to crypto hardware wallet purchases, enabling highly targeted phishing, impersonation, and possibly physical targeting. ShipMonk said unauthorized access occurred on Aug. 10, affecting orders from May 10 to Aug. 8. Trezor is working with ShipMonk to understand why some older records remained available. Trezor advised customers to distrust urgent requests, verify through official channels, and never share wallet backups. It also plans an “Anonymous Delivery” option in the EU and US to reduce future shipping-data exposure.
