Aave’s Native Bitcoin Plan Moves Forward, But Governance Has Questions

Summary

Babylon Labs proposed bringing native Bitcoin collateral to Aave V4 without custodians or freely tradable wrapped BTC. Users would lock BTC in Taproot-based Trustless Bitcoin Vaults, while Aave records restricted collateral units in an isolated lending market. The design could let holders borrow stablecoins while Bitcoin-side spending conditions govern the underlying funds. The proposal remains at the governance discussion stage; risk parameters, community review, a Snapshot vote and an on-chain proposal are still pending. Participants have also questioned emergency-pause mechanisms and control of vault infrastructure.
