AI Finds Critical Flaw in Bitcoin Lightning, Devs Issue Emergency Warning
Core Lightning warned Bitcoin Lightning node operators that several vulnerabilities found in a flood of AI-generated security reports are real and fixes are being prepared. It urged users to install the forthcoming signed update quickly; if they cannot upgrade, they should restart nodes with `--offline` rather than power them off. Offline mode blocks payments and peer connections but keeps the node monitoring the Bitcoin chain, which is important for responding if a channel counterparty force-closes. The project said details will remain private for at least two weeks while operators update, and it will stop supporting older versions such as 26.04. This comes amid broader Bitcoin ecosystem concerns that AI is accelerating vulnerability discovery, with the Bitcoin Red Team reporting thousands of possible findings across hundreds of projects and some already linked to serious losses or service suspensions.
