Banks double on EU MiCA crypto provider list as share hits 23%

Summary

Banks are expanding quickly in Europe’s regulated crypto market under MiCA. Between June 26 and Sept. 16, the number of banks on the EU crypto provider register doubled from about 40 to about 80, lifting their share of listed providers to nearly 23%. Total crypto-asset service providers rose from 243 to 349, but non-bank firms lost share, falling from about 84% to 77%, even though they still dominate in absolute numbers. Germany drove much of the growth, with major lenders like Deutsche Bank and many regional cooperative banks appearing on the register. Banks can enter via MiCA’s notification route rather than the standard crypto firm authorization process, allowing faster expansion into custody and other crypto services.
