Ethereum Institutional signals support for Ethlabs’ motion to reduce Ethereum block times
Ethereum Institutional backed Ethlabs’ push to speed up Ethereum by reducing block times, saying “Make Ethereum faster” as more institutional activity moves onchain. Ethlabs also cited support from 20 DeFi founders for EIP-8198, or “Quick Slots,” which would cut Ethereum’s block time from 12 seconds to 10 seconds initially. The proposal was introduced for possible inclusion in the Hegotá upgrade, and Ethlabs is integrating its specs into the main codebase while checking for downstream impacts. The move fits a broader industry trend: Zcash holders recently approved a block-time reduction, and Solana has already lowered slot times and is exploring further cuts to improve latency and confirmation speed. Ethereum developers may start implementing Hegotá in late 2026 after Glamsterdam.
