Binance brushes off Lagarde MiCA speculation, reaffirms Europe commitment
Binance did not comment on reports that ECB President Christine Lagarde intervened in its failed Greek crypto license application. The Wall Street Journal said a vice chair of Greece’s Hellenic Capital Market Commission told Binance that Lagarde had asked Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis not to approve the bid. Greek officials reportedly informed ESMA in early June that the regulator planned to approve the license. Binance said it remains committed to long-term compliance in Europe under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The exchange applied for a MiCA license in Greece in January, but later withdrew the application and said it would seek authorization in another EU jurisdiction shortly before the July 1 MiCA deadline.
