Bitcoin erased $118 million from Abu Dhabi’s ETF holdings, but its sovereign funds kept every share

Summary

Mubadala Investment Company and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council kept their BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF holdings unchanged in Q2, holding a combined 22.94 million shares worth about $764 million at June 30. The position value fell from roughly $881 million at the end of March as Bitcoin declined, even though neither investor sold shares. Mubadala held 14.72 million IBIT shares, valued at $490.1 million, making it its second-largest reported holding. ADIC held 8.22 million shares, worth $273.6 million, and IBIT was its largest US-listed position, representing over a third of its 13F portfolio. The stance contrasts with other institutions that cut exposure during Bitcoin’s downturn. Bitcoin was down about 29% for the year by Friday and roughly half from its record high. The holdings may not capture any Bitcoin owned directly outside ETFs. Abu Dhabi has also been expanding its digital-asset ecosystem through regulation, investments, and tokenization initiatives.
