BitMEX delists 65 trading pairs, derivatives in July amid exchange shutdown
Summary
BitMEX is rapidly delisting products because of low trading interest as it winds down operations. In early July, it removed 21 derivative contracts, then nine spot pairs two weeks later, and added 35 more derivatives for delisting, bringing July’s total to 65. BitMEX said the moves reflect insufficient demand and the planned closure of the exchange. It also announced it will cease exchange services on Sept. 23, 2026, after a strategic review of its business and the crypto industry. The shutdown highlights broader pressure on mid-sized centralized exchanges, including liquidity concentrating at larger venues and rising compliance costs.
