BNB Chain splits asset power across 4 roles while admins hold the key
BNB Chain’s v1.8.1 release schedules the Jenner upgrade for the Chapel testnet on Oct. 29, ahead of a tentative late-November mainnet rollout. It supports the proposed CAS20 standard for native stablecoin and asset tokens, while BEP-702 remains a draft. CAS20 separates network-level feature activation from issuer-controlled token roles and shared policy lists: governance appoints an administrator who can enable token creation and policy-registry updates, but closing those switches does not disable existing tokens or directly freeze balances. Token-level permissions govern minting, transfers, pausing and seizure; seizure requires several safeguards and is separate from ordinary transfer restrictions. The design may simplify token implementation, but shared policies can affect multiple assets, and a defect in native client code could require a hard fork.
