Brazil puts tokenized cows to work as loan collateral: Report

Summary

Brazil’s B3 stock exchange reportedly backed a loan with tokenized dairy cattle, creating a new form of livestock-based collateral. The deal involved a 100,000 reais loan secured by 10 cows from a farm in Paraná, with the herd valued at about 120,000 reais. Brazilian investment fund Target FIDC structured the transaction. Each cow was assigned a unique digital token tied to an encrypted digital identity, and AI-enabled smart collars from Cowmed track the animals’ health, reducing the need for physical checks. The approach could broaden credit access for farmers by making cattle easier to use as collateral. Cowmed says it monitors about 100,000 dairy cows across 1,000 Brazilian farms.
