Crypto hacks top $768M in September, worst month of 2026

September was the worst month of the year for crypto hacks and exploits, with losses estimated at about $766 million. PeckShield reported 55 major incidents and $766.5 million stolen, while CertiK recorded 97 incidents and $768.4 million in losses, both sharply higher than August. Major events included the $388 million Bitget hack and a $320 million hack of the Liquid Network, with more than $270 million later reportedly recovered. Smaller losses hit Safe Wallet, DCENT, and Duelbits. CertiK’s dashboard shows 656 security incidents in 2026 so far, totaling $2.68 billion in losses.
