EIP-8037 state-gas rules force Ethereum dApps to rewrite billing
Ethereum developers are asking application teams and auditors to review eight assumptions affected by gas changes proposed for the Glamsterdam upgrade. EIP-8037 would separately meter persistent state growth, while EIP-8038 would reprice access to existing state. Potential problems include relayers miscalculating reimbursements because gas readings omit reservoir spending, reusable EIP-7702 authorizations after certain failed transactions, and contracts recording underfunded operations as permanently unsuccessful. Suggested mitigations include revised billing limits, wallet safeguards and preserving retry paths; some proposed fixes would require protocol changes. Hoodi testnet activation and a gas-limit increase were postponed, and mainnet activation has no set date. Developers are seeking reports on what breaks and whether projects can repair or migrate affected systems to guide specification decisions.
