Ledger’s crypto wallet implant scare triggers Trezor reseller crackdown as security fears spread
Trezor will end authorization for selected resellers on Jan. 1, 2027, after a review prompted by a hardware-implant attack involving Ledger wallets. The company said it found no evidence of compromised devices in its own network and framed the move as preventive, citing limits on its ability to inspect all partners. Affected retailers can sell existing stock through the holiday season; Trezor plans tighter contracts and inspections for remaining partners. The decision follows Ledger’s confirmation that a malicious component in a wallet sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis could capture recovery phrases. Ledger has also investigated other reported tampering cases, though several remain unconfirmed, and has not verified estimates of losses approaching $93 million.
