Metaplanet CEO shuts down Bitcoin sale speculation after $322M transfer
Metaplanet said it did not sell any Bitcoin despite moving 5,014 BTC, worth about $322 million, over a 24-hour period. CEO Simon Gerovich said the transfer was a routine custody operation, the company still holds 43,000 BTC, and the network fees were only about $8. Metaplanet remains the third-largest publicly traded Bitcoin treasury company and the largest in Asia. Arkham data puts its unrealized loss at roughly $1.4 billion. The company is also expanding beyond simple accumulation. In March, it launched Metaplanet Ventures and committed 4 billion yen, or about $25 million, over two to three years for Bitcoin and crypto infrastructure investments in Japan. It aims to reach 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
