Metaplanet Denies Selling $320M in Bitcoin as Firm Launches BitBonds

Summary

Metaplanet denied selling Bitcoin after a 5,014 BTC transfer between its own custodial wallets drew online speculation. CEO Simon Gerovich said it was a routine custody move, not a sale, and confirmed holdings remain 43,000 BTC. The transfers were visible because the company publicly shares its Bitcoin addresses. The denial followed recent Bitcoin sales by Strategy, which fueled concerns that Metaplanet might also be trimming its treasury. At the same time, Metaplanet launched BitBonds, a fixed-rate debt program designed to raise capital without issuing more shares or selling Bitcoin immediately. The company said proceeds may support future Bitcoin purchases and other corporate uses. The move strengthens its capital strategy but increases debt obligations if Bitcoin prices fall.
