NFL backs New Jersey authorities in SCOTUS petition over Kalshi

Summary

The NFL urged the US Supreme Court to review New Jersey’s case against Kalshi, arguing that sports event contracts raise concerns about game integrity, consumer protection and whether federal or state authorities should regulate prediction markets. It said NFL-related contracts accounted for about $1.8 billion of $3.3 billion in prediction-market trading on the first Sunday of the football season, and warned that some bets could be manipulated by players, coaches or officials. Thirty-nine states and the District of Columbia also backed New Jersey’s request, citing uncertainty over the division of authority between states and the CFTC. The Supreme Court has not said whether it will hear the case; Kalshi has until Nov. 9 to respond.
