North Korean Hackers Lazarus Group Stolen $3B in Cryptocurrency

Lazarus Group, a hacker organization linked to North Korea, has been reported to have stolen $3 billion in cryptocurrency over the past six years, according to cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. In 2022 alone, the group stole $1.7 billion, believed to help fund North Korean projects. It has been noted that $1.1 billion was taken from decentralized finance platforms. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security highlighted Lazarus's exploitation of these platforms. The U.S. Treasury Department has introduced new sanctions against North Korea's cyber activities, specifically targeting 'Sinbad', who has been implicated in laundering the stolen cryptocurrencies. Besides, Lazarus Group is known for significant thefts, including hacking the Bangladesh Central Bank in 2016 and the Central Bank of Malaysia in 2018.
