Radar Chat Wants to Make Sending Bitcoin as Easy as Firing Off a Text
Radar Chat is a new iOS and Android app from the team behind Cake Wallet that combines end-to-end encrypted messaging with self-custodial Bitcoin payments over the Lightning Network. It lets users send Bitcoin inside private chats without switching apps or copying wallet addresses. The app is built on Signal’s open-source protocol, and users keep control of their private keys. The project is separate from Cake Wallet and independently developed from Signal, though it supports Signal’s work. Radar targets everyday payments such as splitting bills, repaying friends, buying lunch, and tipping. The team says it has tested payments up to $5,000, with limits mainly determined by Lightning liquidity rather than the app itself. It also offers recovery via a seed phrase and an encrypted backup tied to the user’s Signal account.
